Golden leaves and autumn sun. As the days get colder we have made some new flavours and tonics to suit this time of year.

Chilli Chocolate and Medicinal Mushroom Water Kefir

Our newest kefir flavour and halloween special! The flavour of this kefir is quite different to what you might expect. With warming spices and a chocolatey smoothness it is the perfect autumnal probiotic drink!

The medicinal mushroom we use is Reishi (also know as Lingzhi mushroom). Reishi mushrooms have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. The Ancient Chinese considered it to be a miracle herb! It is said to have powerful immune strengthening properties, relieve stress and promote vitality, healthy ageing and well being.

Reishi Mushroom Properties:

  • Reishi mushrooms are considered adaptogens and substances with adaptogenic qualities are able to help the body to combat physical, mental, and environmental stresses, which in turn can help to recharge the adrenal glands and lower cortisol levels.
  • Contain polysaccharides such as beta-glucans, which have been shown to have anti-tumor activities and immuno-stimulatory effects.
  • They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Turmeric and Ginger Elixir

A lovely warming shot with a powerful little kick. This elixir is full of healing ginger and turmeric, tamarind for a little citrusy flavour and some maple syrup to sweeten it up.

Turmeric contains anti-oxidant properties and there are several metabolic diseases and age-related degenerative disorders that are closely associated with oxidative processes in the body.

Turmerone is another phytochemical in turmeric that studies have shown has neuroprotective properties and can aid in cognitive performance.

Turmeric is well documented for its incredible anti-inflammatory properties through the active substance Curcumin. Reducing inflammation can help with pain, skin health, the digestive system and many diseases such as heart disease, depression, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and cancer.

Ginger is one of the oldest medicinal plants used in Ayurvedic, Indonesian and Traditional Chinese Medicine. According to these systems ginger warms the body and is good for circulation, aids digestion and eases nausea, reduces aches and pains and restores strength. Modern research shows ginger can boost the immune system therefore helps ward off colds and flu, helps all areas of digestion, stomach aches and nausea and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Tamarind has a lovely tangy flavour is widely used across Asia for its healing powers. It is traditionally used to aid digestion, relieve stomach upset, fevers, sore throats, inflammation, sunstroke and rheumatism.
